NATIONAL COMPETITION FOR INNOVATIVE EXPERIMENTS IN PHYSICS (NCIEP)

 

This activity is being held since 2003, to encourage Physics Teachers to conceive and set up original innovative experiments in Physics. The Competition is held every year at the venue of the Annual Convention. Innovation rather than sophistication is the main theme and therefore the use of computers for data acquisition and display is not allowed.

 

Guidelines for the NCIEP are as given below:

1. The participant must be a teacher at any level. He /She need not be an IAPT member.

2. The experiment should be an original one, designed by the participant himself / herself. It can be even a demonstration type experiment.

3. There will be two categories of entries and prizes on the basis of age. Top 3 experiments from each category A and B will be awarded cash prizes.

The basic objective of IAPT as spelled out in its Constitution is t o upgrade the level of teaching and teachers of physics and related areas at all levels to pool and mobilize the talents and resources of teachers in the national perspective.

4. The participant should submit the details of the experiment in the following format and sequence. The entire text of title page as well as text pages should be in A4 size sheets, only on one side in Times New Roman, font size 12, with 1.5 line spacing, justified, proper margins on all four sides be maintained.

 

5. Title page (s) should contain

5.1 Title of the experiment (capital letters)

5.2 Abstract of the experiment (not exceeding 300 words)

5.3 Name of the Participant (s) (in credit order) with age and category A / B

5.9 A declaration that the proposed experiment is original, designed and developed by the participant(s) and not published / submitted elsewhere. This declaration should be signed by each participant(s).

 

6. The text sheets should contain Aim of the experiment, abstract of the experiment (same as in 5.1 and 5.2 respectively), detailed theory with necessary diagrams, experimental procedure, observations, calculations, graphs, results, and references. There is no limit for the number of text sheets. However, these sheets should be numbered serially and total number of pages be mentioned. The participant should not write his / her name, name of college / school etc anywhere in the text sheets. This may reveal his/her identity.

 

7. Selected entries from each category will be invited for demonstration at IAPT convention venue. The invited entries will be paid railway fare and reservation charges (to and fro) from work place to convention place as per IAPT rules plus expenses on carrying the equipment if necessary. In case of joint authors only one of the participants is eligible to receive traveling charges (as per IAPT rules). The selected participant has to come with his own setup for final demonstration.

 

8. Convention place is Kolkata but the dates will be notified later.

11. Decision of the judges will be final.

 

12. The abstracts of all the selected experiments will be published in IAPT bulletin after the competition. IAPT bulletin has a ISSN number 2277-8950.
