IAPT Olympiads

International Physics Olympiad (IPhO)

International Olympiads are held every year in mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Astronomy. The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) has been organized practically every year since 1967.IPhO is held in a different country every year. India has been participating in InPhO from the XXIXth IPhO held in Iceland in July.

Olympiads are internationally recognized competitions in various fields of knowledge. They are the highest level examinations and are hosted by different countries every year. Participation in any of the Olympiads has worldwide recognition and is considered as a great achievement

NSEP.

Since 1998, NSEP has been linked to the InPhO. Top 1% at national level in NSEP become eligible to appear in InPhO. Top 35 in InPhO qualify to join a training camp at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) Mumbai, at the end of which a five member team is selected to represent India at OhO. The Indian team has been performing consistently well at IPhO. A student can participate in InPhO only through NSEP.

Asian Physics Olympiad

The Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) is an annual physics competition for high school students from Asia and Oceania regions. It is one of the International Science Olympiads and is also the only regional competition in physics to date. APhO has its origins in the International Physics Olympiad and is conducted according to similar statutes (One five-hour theoretical examination and one or two laboratory examinations). It is usually held about two months before the IPhO and can also be seen as additional training for the team.

The Asian Physics Olympiad Programme is a four stage process. It includes

i. National Standard Examinations in Physics (NSEP),

ii. Indian National Olympiads in Physics (INPhO),

iii. Pre - Departure Training camps (PDTs) in Physics and

iv. Participation in the Asian Physics Olympiads (APhO).

IAPT is responsible for conducting the first, third and fourth stages while the second stage of the programme is carried out by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. At present, Prof. Ravi Bhattacharjee is the Co-ordinator of the Asian Physics Olympiad Programme .
